Icon set

Today I looked for icons for using them in our applications. I have searched the web for free and commercial icon sets and found the following web pages:

Tutorials

Collections

Specialized icon set

Linux

Commercial icon sets

Icon editors

Custom icon design companies

I am looking for Windows XP style icons. Now I am wondering how other developers are creating icons for their own applications. Do you create or buy your own icons for your applications or are you using free icon resources? Can anybody recommend icon sets or icon design companies?

Anyways, I hope the link helps you.

Hey just landed here from Google groups. I agree with Bram, and I have seen some very nice cross platform icons. Could be companies developing Mac-centric apps are more concerned about UI aesthetics because of their target markets? :) I would add, it is deceptively hard to make a set of icons that are meaningful, much less slick looking, when working on anything but the simplest of apps.
